Professor Joaquin Barraquer has structured his team of assistants in various, clearly differentiated specialties, all of them encompassing the areas of ophthalmology. All units have been provided with state-of-the-art equipment, as well as the most advanced diagnostic devices. The team of ophthalmologists deals with various eye disorders which are mainly divided to pathologies of:

• front eye segment (cornea, glaucoma, cataract)
• rear segment (hyaloids body, retina, macula, ophthalmic nerve, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy)
• binocular vision and strabismus
• oculoplastics, lacrimal apparatus and eye-socket
• refractive surgery of myopia, hypermetropia and astigmatism, as well as presbyopia (laser refractive surgery and implanting intraocular lenses)
• eye oncology
• emergency ophthalmologic unit 24 h a day, a team of ophthalmologists and nurses available on duty.

For support and assistance for the ophthalmologic team, the centre disposes of internal diseases specialists, doctors in endocrinology, diabetology, otho-rhino-laryngology, dentistry, biology and clinical tests. In addition, it disposes of anesthesiologists, specializing in all types of eye surgery, and relies on the cooperation of notable professionals in pediatrics, hematology, plastic surgery, urology, dermatology, digestology, neurology, etc.

Barraquer ophthalmologic centre has 44 rooms for hospitalized patients, as well as 19 surgical boxes for outpatients. Patients in need of intervention are serviced personally in the admission unit, where they are informed of all the steps necessary for their admission. All types of conveniences are offered so that the patient may choose the operating surgeon, as well as the admission room and date. Rooms for hospitalization are located on several floors, a common nurses’ room on each floor.

The menu, daily prepared by a nutrition specialist, is served by the centre’s kitchen which also has a cafeteria for the patients’ relatives and friends.
